Hi! I’m Jeff, and I’m running to be your SEA Vice President.

As a board member of the Para Department, an AR for six years, an MLK Labor delegate, and a member of SEA’s political committee, I’ve developed a strong understanding of our union and have a vision of how we can move forward united and ready to fight for the schools our students deserve.

My campaign is all about transparency and member empowerment, so we can get organized to win BIG. As you already know, these are difficult times for us as educators. Public schools and the communities that depend on us are under attack on multiple fronts and our union needs to be ready to fight back.

As a community organizer, I bring a grassroots lens to my work. Outside of my work in SEA, I’ve co-led two successful campaigns for affordable housing and progressive revenue in the last four years. To win a strong contract, we need a united coalition of educators, parents, students, and community allies fighting for the schools our students deserve. My experience mobilizing broad, diverse coalitions for economic justice is how we won those campaigns—and that’s what I’ll bring to SEA as Vice President.

I’m motivated to bridge the gaps between union leadership and members, prioritizing transparency through consistent and open communication. As we build strength ahead of our next full bargain, our members and the community need to know what we’re fighting for, and our union must make our most important decisions together. A core priority of mine will be getting into buildings to connect directly with members. Together, we’ll build strong systems for engagement so that everyone can plug in and help win a better future for our schools.

When our members are empowered and we have clear direction, we can win big on issues of racial, social and economic justice. Let’s get organized and get to work. SEA strong. Vote JP for VP!

When We Fight, We Win!

What do we want?

  • Smaller class sizes and caseloads

  • Reduced systemic inequities for communities of color

  • Safer working conditions

  • Mental health and behavioral supports for students

  • Increased pay for classified staff

  • Fully-funded public schools for all!

How Do We Win It?

  • Build a fully-engaged, strike-ready membership by creating concrete opportunities for members to plug in as we build to the bargain. Opportunities include:

    • Our Member Communication Action Team (MCAT), which informs, organizes and mobilize our members - you can join today!

    • We should open up our bargaining support team, which provides input to the lead bargain team during negotiations

    • We should create contract topic committees to dig into different sections of the contract to help support the bargaining team

    • Our new lgbtqia+ and immigrants committees

    • Become a zone captain!

  • Forge strong coalitions with parents, students, and community members who will fight alongside us for fully-funded schools.

  • Create a system for transparent, open bargaining practices so members know exactly what’s happening at the table and can help drive decision-making and provide support to the bargaining team.

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy in collaboration with other local EAs and WEA leadership so we can effectively mobilize our large membership to pressure Olympia to pass the progressive revenue we need to fully fund our schools.

Experience

  • Proud queer educator with 8 years of experience as a para in SPS

  • Para Board member and AR for 6 years enforcing our contract to win FTE increases, reduced caseloads, and additional staffing

  • Current BLT rep and Racial Equity Team co-chair for 2 years; founded GSAs at both of my schools (shout out Queers and Peers!)

  • MLK Labor delegate for 2 years and first year EPEC member

  • Over 10 years of experience as a community organizer mobilizing broad, diverse coalitions to win major grassroots political campaigns

Community Organizing Gets the Goods

In 2014, I founded the local chapter of a climate lobbying group in my hometown and I have been engaged in community organizing ever since. I have a strong track record of winning big campaigns for economic justice and that is the experience I’ll bring to SEA as Vice President.

In 2021, I helped to build an organization called House Our Neighbors (HON) to bring together a coalition of housing justice advocates to fight for meaningful action on housing affordability. In 2023, after building out a truly grassroots, volunteer-led campaign, we successfully passed a city-wide Voter Initiative, I-135, which created a public developer tasked with creating permanently affordable, mixed-income housing throughout the city.

In 2025, after gathering nearly 40,000 signatures, HON passed another initiative, Prop 1A, to tax the wealthiest companies in our city to fund the housing developer when our city government refused to do so. By mobilizing hundreds of volunteers in a massive grassroots effort, we took on the most powerful special interest groups in the city and won in a landslide. Nearly two thirds of Seattle voters supported our campaign to tax the ultra rich to fund housing for all, even though those wealthy companies spent over $600,000 trying to kill our movement.

This is the power of effective grassroots organizing. When regular people come together to take on the rich and powerful, we can win big and deliver for our communities. Its no different for SEA fighting for a budget and a contract that will improve our schools. Let’s make it happen!
